Listening While Juggling Multiple Roles [LISTEN]

With 1 hubby (yes 1), 4 kids, 2 cats and a hamster, life is never dull or quiet, even at 3:00 am. There is school, soccer, ballet, gymnastics, swimming, as well as being involved in serving in different ways at church, and recently a new business adventure! Somehow, my brain has learned how to survive well with 5,000 thoughts, decisions and questions, often at the same time. All this activity isn’t naturally conducive to listening to God’s gentle voice, and requires some work and adjustment in order to do so.

One thing I have learned though, is that God does talk, He communicates, and He wants to have a relationship with us!

For me, as a parent of 4 wonderful kids who each have different personalities, wishes, discipline issues, and unique strengths and weaknesses, I am learning that having a “one shoe fits all” approach to parenting just does not work. I actually need to hear God constantly for each individual situation, and how to parent each child appropriately. By Gods awesome grace and mercy He has taught me to stop in the middle of the mayhem, and in my heart and mind to take a few seconds to ask and wait and listen as to how to deal with this particular situation and person. Often times He tells me how to deal in a situation, other times He points me to common sense, and sometimes He just gives me peace, but always I know He is there and He is listening. His clear voice cuts through the overrun mind, and brings me peace and guidance.

The point I am trying to make, is that in our all-consuming, non-stop lives, God is speaking. He is guiding and He is helping. In the simple, everyday, normal things, He is a part of, and wants to be a part of our lives. Helping us to be an outstanding spouse, parent, friend, work colleague, business partner etc. He is so involved in the details, we just need to stop, and ask! He will speak! I write this not as someone who has learned this all, but as one who is growing in my ability to remember to stop and listen, and is growing in hearing in the middle of a busy life!
