Freed from an addiction (Vince)
Whether recent or ‘not quite-as-recent’, we want to continue telling stories of God’s goodness. Thanks, Vince, for sharing!
On December 8th 2013, I attended a local Jesus Culture concert. Prior to the worship, Pastor Banning Liebscher of Jesus Culture felt to pray for deliverance from addictions. He asked those wishing to be free to stand. A friend “gently” nudged me, encouraging me to stand. I was bewildered as I felt my “addiction” was simply a bad habit.
The addiction I speak of was nail biting. I was a chronic nail-biter since childhood. I remember as a child that it drove a couple of my aunts crazy as they threatened me with everything from hot sauce to a variety of promised incentives. I tried over the years to consciously refrain, which never worked long-term.
That night at the concert, Banning did not pray specifically for nail biting but a general release from addictions. I stood and received the move of God. I felt nothing unusual, nor did I notice any sort of manifestation.
I spend a lot of time behind the wheel as I travel for business. This is when I usually find myself chewing at my nails. What I did notice the very next day was the desire was gone. It wasn’t a conscious effort on my behalf, rather the desire was simply no longer present.
I am happy to share this supernatural deliverance by our Awesome God to inspire others and towards obedience as well. The Lord commanded the Israelites to teach of His works and wonders to the generations. How quickly I sometimes forget His blessings. I find myself at times praying for signs and wonders when in fact I’ve witnessed firsthand.
