Feedback: Team Trip to 614 Church (Columbus, OH) – Feb 20-21, 2016

Hey CITC – Since a whole team of folks went down to 614 Church last weekend, we’ve got several ‘reports’ on the trip for you!

From Amy Miller

“He Satisfies the Hungry and Thirsty”

“You provided bread from heaven for them for their hunger, You brought forth water from a rock for them for their thirst, And You told them to enter in order to possess The land which You swore to give them.” ‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭9:15‬ ‭NASB‬‬

This passage is a great illustration of what God was doing in the hearts of so many at 614 church in Columbus this past weekend.

Every time the body gathered, whether it be at the ministry time on Friday, the women’s time on Saturday or the Sunday morning worship service, I had an overwhelming sense of people’s hunger and thirst for more– More of experiencing all that God has to offer, the bread and water of heaven! It was like watching people feast and having their thirst fully quenched!

I was encouraged and moved to witness men and women encounter God in a fresh way and experience His love in greater measure whether it be through a word of encouragement, a scripture, a song, a testimony, preaching of the word, a prayer or simply through a listening ear.

It was encouraging to watch people realize the fullness of what it means to be a child of God and that God has invited us into so much more than just a ticket to heaven. People realizing for the first time that our God is trustworthy and invites us into intimacy to be enjoyed not just in heaven but for the now. That the hungry and thirsty are invited to be a part of a kingdom that gets to enjoy righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit not just in heaven but for today!

God has begun a great thing in 614 church and it was a wonderful experience to partner with Him to encourage and blow wind into what He is doing there! It’s just the beginning!!

From Dave Foster

We visited 614 Church this weekend for the Equip. Several days before that I felt like God led me to read about and meditate on the life of Hezekiah. I read through the accounts of his life and what God did through him in 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles and Isaiah. Each account fills out the picture of his life. These verses really stood out to me and I felt moved to share them on Friday night.

(Hezekiah said this to the people of Jerusalem who were about to be attacked by a brutal and dominant enemy) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.” ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭32:7-8‬ ‭NIV

Despite being the son of a king who did terrible things and led the country to do the same while worshiping idols, Hezekiah turned to God and lead the country in worshiping God alone and destroying the idols. Before saying what I have quoted above, he had led his people in working very hard to make preparations to defend themselves. He and the prophet Isaiah fasted and prayed after the enemy taunted and threatened them and defaming the name and character of God. God actually destroyed and defeated the enemy and they didn’t even end up fighting. It was so decisive that other countries sent gifts to Hezekiah and God! It says that God saved them and took care of them on every side.

I said that we need to be reminded of the perspective that Hezekiah spoke in these verses because we forget it so often.

Later someone told me that Matt Philip, one of the Church in the City elders, preached from that text when he was there the week before! It is exciting to be a part of what God is doing even when we don’t see how it all ties together!

Steve and I had the amazing privilege of not only ministering at 614 Church this last weekend, but doing it in team! The Coates, Millers, Fosters and Miss Marie came with us. From the first meeting, right to the end, I was reminded how wonderful team was! God used the team powerfully to minister His heart, often confirming His word two or three times over through different people. The children did so well, loving being in their own little community as well.

A highlight for all of us was the salvation of a 96 year old woman, coming out of a Jehovah’s Witness background. Praise Jesus!

Another highlight for me was watching the church responding to God’s word. Steve preached an amazing message and there was a great response as God touched His people.

Our God is good!!
